Oh man, n2dwind, that looks FANTASTIC! That is the LED headlight that Custom Dynamics makes, correct? I know you said Headwinds, but I'm pretty sure that's CD's new TruBEAM headlight. I've been oogling over that since they came out, but I have a Commander so I'd need 2 of them... After seeing your pics I might really have to think about it. I also love the halo ring!

This is the one I got from Headwinds: Link
This beam is more focused than the stock light and it is also a lot brighter. Here are a couple of pictures of the low and high beam and you can see how focused the low beam is on the garage doors.

Low Beam
High Beam
Low Beam
High Beam

Also, I didn't feel any heat coming off of the light. The bucket remained cool to the touch and the front lens didn't seem to get as hot as the stock one did.

Man I wish they made these for the smaller Storm buckets! Imagine the view!! But that'd set me back about $800!! The guys at TwistedThrottle are awesome. They support our annual Bennington Triumph Bash each year!

I've bought a few things from Twisted Throttle and have been very pleased with them. I got a pair of NoNoise ear plugs using the points I gained from buying this headlight.

This is the 5 3/4 inch headlight which I think is the same one that's in the Storm bucket.

I know the price is high but everything I've purchased for this bike is expensive. After I first got it, I started to kept a list of the accessories and upgrades along with the price I paid until it got to the point that I didn't want to know how much I was spending on my "Hobby". Good thing my Wife never saw that list.

Did you have to make any modifications to the bucket for it to fit? I'm just wondering how truly plug and play this is. It seems like the Storm headlights aren't as deep as the regular Bird headlights. Wondering if there are any fitment issues.

My other pictures on the second page of this thread shows the new headlight in the chrome ring from the back. All I did was remove the spring clips from the old one, drop the new one in making sure it was straight up and then put back the spring clips (you can see the 4 spring clips around the edge of the light). The Halo plug fits the parking light plug we already have and then it's just putting the assembly back in the bucket and screwing back in the two screws.

HaHa, I know the feeling. BTW your light looks great!

I do have a question for you guys that have installed LED's as replacements to your stock bulbs, does the headlight cause a blinding effect to oncoming vehicles if they are looking at the front of your bike as they approach you? Or is the front of the LED domed or shielded enough where they don't actually see the LED only the reflected light off the headlghts reflective housing?

The LEDs are mounted to face the reflector surface[s], not straight out. Headlight should be aimed just like with halogen so it doesn't blind oncoming traffic.

When I posted the previous question, it was after I had watched this video. Link at 11:30 into the video the guy begins to talk about and show how the exposed LED is blinding. However, he did modify his LED bulb by removing what appears to be a rather large reflector from the end of the stalk that the LED's are mounted to. So there is a more direct view of the LED's from the front. But, when I looked at the picture of the LED that you are using as well as many found on eBay, I noticed that they have a small end cap which doesn't appear to be much of a reflector or blocker of the LED and it appears that from a slight offset looking at the front of the headlight, oncoming vehicles could see the ultrabright LED????

The problem with that type of LED bulb is focus. Conventional bulbs (halogen) create a source of light from a single point, the filament, which makes it relatively easy to project a beam with reflector and lens. Multiple LEDs throw light in all directions; since it's diffused to begin with, it becomes nearly impossible to focus and project a beam, thus the serious lenses and sealed unit used by high-end LED lights. Lens, reflector and LED all have to work together.

An H4 bulb in a round headlight like ours having cone-shaped reflector projecting the light works much better than the stylized reflector on the bike in that video, but the reflector is still the only thing projecting light from H4 LED bulb. The little cup covering low-beam filament in a conventional H4 is what blocks light from blinding on-coming traffic.

The "cage" removed from that H4 LED bulb in video is probably meant to serve the same purpose, but without a reflector surrounding the bulb it loses all its light and is worthless. If you go with an LED, best to pay the money for a sealed unit like the one n2dwind has which appears to be a vast improvement over conventional H4 setup IMHO.

Thanks for the link n2dwind! There appear to be some very minor differences between these and the Custom Dynamics models, but they are EXTREMELY close in design.

For anyone else who's interested in these LED lights, these are the ones Custom Dynamics offers:
Link

I just installed the Custom Dynamics Dynamic Ringz front LED turn signals on my Commander, and the LED headlights would really look great in combination with them. SOOO tempting!!

Hi Rallyfan43,
They look awesome!
Was trying to work out which part number you have from the website and couldn't decide. Could you please advise? Also, were they plug and play? I have a Storm but I assume the turn signal wiring and casings are the same as your Commander?
Good stuff!!!

Thanks for the compliment! Been wanting to install these since I got my T-Bird and I'm thrilled with how they look. And man they are BRIGHT! I'm actually thinking about somehow hooking them up to the aux light switch that's next to the headlight switch, just for the option of not annoying other riders in front of me at night haha.

Anyway, I used item # GEN200-AW-1157. They're the ones designed for a Harley "bullet style" turn signal. And yes, the turn signal casings are the same across the Thunderbird models.

I used PapaSmurf's method from Part 2 of his thread for the install of the LED clusters into the casings. You can get those specific furniture floor protectors he used on Amazon or at Home Depot.
Link
As far as plug-n-play goes... Not so much haha. If you look through PapaSmurf's thread, you'll see a link for HM 090 connectors from Cycle Terminal.Link The male pins from those actually fit snugly into the stock female connectors that are in the T-Bird's turn signal casings. That takes care of the ground and amber light connections. Then you just need to run a "hot" wire into each turn signal casing to power the white portion of the LEDs. You can do this simply without much headache, or you can go OCD mode like me and try to make it look as factory as possible haha. I used an AMP 070 2 pin connector to tap into the spot designed for Triumph heated grips install (not sure if that's even on the Storm) and ran a wire from that to each turn signal.

Post bike week review of lights. I havent been riding the storm much since my GS is running like a top right now. Took the wife up to daytona for bike week. After about 20 miles there was condensation around the lower large bulb. It went away after a while, like all day. The light is borderline too much light. I have adjusted them down a bit because I noticed all the cars in front of me at the redlight adjusting their mirrors. They dont exactly fit perfect, some finagaling is needed to get them to sit straight in the trim ring, i suspect its the depth of the light itself along with the plug assembly. The buckets are small in volume.

n2dwind.. thanks for posting those pics of your Denali led & the follow up pics of what light they project. I've ordered one of those bad boys for my bike because I like what I see. Exchange rate makes it a lot of fun tickets but I won't be replacing a bulb any more.. last year I rode halfway around Oz and in 12500k's the only thing I had to do was replace the headlight bulb. Stock light just isn't bright enough.. my riding buddy kept telling me he had trouble seeing me.

Thanks Beamy, I just got back from Bike Week in Daytona and met up with the people from TWISTEDTHROTTLE at their booth. I had just had my oil changed at the AMISOL booth and stopped by to let them see what the light looked like in a Triumph. They were really impressed with the look and took a few pictures which they said they might use in their advertisements.

I rode a lot at night while up there (have to cruise Main Street a few times) and the light was bright and cast a very clear and focused beam. IMHO it really looks good on this bike. My Bike is Black and the Black Chrome inside the light housing really looks custom. I did see this same light at another dealer's booth with their name on it but it was $$40.00 more so I think in a few months other dealers will have the light and the price might come down. I'm really glad I got mine and wouldn't go back to the stock one.

This is what the Halo ring looks like at night without the high or low beam on (key in the parking light position)

The more I ride this bike at night, the more I like this headlight.

The one I bought is not round like Alan's, but triangular, and has 3 different adapters for 3 different mounts. the correct adapter only goes one way into the mount on the headlight assembly, but the bulb goes into the adapter two ways! I guess I'll go for a ride to see if I got lucky.

Also if don't use the boot, I presume that It'll get bugs & filthy inside the lens.
Not so sure the replacement bulb was the way to go then.

Brilliant! ( )

Gday VABIRD
I bought a similer LED bulb from ebay for AU$24 when I fitted it I used the adapter that was closest to the original H4 Bulb. when the headlight is on on low beam it lights up the upper part of the headlight. with high beam on low beam stays on and high beam lights up the rest of the headlight. seems to work fine and have had no complaints from anyone else on the road.
